50 Hours Diploma

This is an exciting new opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to gain a recognized qualification in Youth Social Entrepreneurship. It is a part time diploma which has been launched by YES Network Pakistan in partnership with Foundation for Youth Social Entrepreneurship. The strengths and expertise of these organizations will be combined to provide entrepreneurial young people the chance to achieve the high quality and specific learning required in the pursuit of starting and managing a social enterprise.

This four week diploma on youth social entrepreneurship is designed to assist those young people who would like to:

Become his/her boss by starting a social enterprise/organization/institution
Bring change in their communities
Identify and execute practical and innovative solutions to social problems
Learn the process of creating new products and services or methodology for solving social problem
Demonstrate a strong commitment for the betterment of the society but not with charity driven approach

1. Purpose:

The main purpose of this diploma is to educate and prepare young people who are considering embarking on an entrepreneurial career to address the issues related to social development. The diploma in youth social entrepreneurship prepares students for innovatively addressing community needs with a combination of entrepreneurial practices and social purposes through for- profit, non-profit and governmental sectors. In short, this diploma is mainly focused on equipping the participants with various aspects of starting and managing social enterprises.

2. Objectives:

The diploma will help you in:

developing required traits and competencies to become successful social entrepreneur.
starting your own social enterprise to serve a social cause developing necessary knowledge, information and skills to plan and manage profitable social enterprise.
preparing a enterprise plan and provide assistance/information in obtaining required funds to start social enterprise.

5. Expected Outcome:

We expect that young people after participating in the four-week diploma on youth social entrepreneurship will be in a position to start and manage their own social enterprise. They will be fully motivated and inspired to become a changemaker. They would have confidence and belief that it is possible to serve and earn as well.

6. Syllabus:

The syllabus is in the form lectures, discussions, case studies, practical field work for framing of the issues. The participants will get necessary knowledge, information; skills and motivation in setting up and managing his/her own social enterprise successfully. The course includes a range of guest speakers from relevant organizations.

7. Study Material:

The study material is divided into seven sections covering critical areas such as:

1.Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship

2. Difference between Business and Social Entrepreneurship

3 Traits and Characteristics of a Social Entrepreneur

4. Assessment of Personal Entrepreneurial Motivation

5. Planning and Managing a Social Enterprise

6. Case Studies of Leading Social Entrepreneurs

7. Information about Obtaining Finance

8. Duration:

The duration of this diploma course is four – weeks. This includes one week of actual field work to assist participants to get familiarized with the process of development of a social enterprise plan. Diploma classes will be arranged between 4 pm to 6pm.

9.Medium of Instruction:

The medium of instruction is both Urdu and English.

10. Eligibility:

Young people who have strong desire to set up social enterprise/organization/institution can join this course.

11. Fees:

Fee for four – weeks Diploma course is Rs.6,000 (plus Rs.1,000 for registration) to be paid at the time of registration.

12. Award of Diploma:

The award of diploma is based on the attendance, assessment of the field work, assignment, and presentation of ideas by the participants.

13. Admission:

The diploma will start on first Monday of every month throughout the year. The diploma can be organized anywhere, anytime through any organization/individual with an interest in youth social entrepreneurship.
